Rates
For disposals from 30 October 2024, CGT is charged at 18% on gains within your basic rate band and 24% above it, for both property and most other assets. Business Asset Disposal Relief has its own reduced rate, which is rising in stages.
Plan before you sell
Timing a sale across tax years, using a spouse or civil partner’s allowance, or offsetting losses can reduce the bill. Talk to us before exchange, not after.
